From Sideways to 13 going on 30

It’s a Saturday night. I’m tired. Mr. Geeky is out of town and the kids are down at a friend’s house. I’ve got an hour and a half to myself. So I put my jammies on, even though it’s only 7, make some hot cider, and pop in my Netflixed DVD, Sideways. I’m just starting to get into the movie when the phone rings. It’s Geeky Boy asking to stay the night. One kid down. He brings Geeky Girl back. She takes her shoes off and settles in on the couch with me.

“Let’s see if there’s a good movie on,” she says.
I flip through the 522 channels and notice 13 going on 30 started just 20 minutes ago, so I stop there.
“Hey, it’s Sydney!”
“Oh, yeah, it is.”
“Let’s watch this.”

So we watch the whole thing, and yeah, it’s cheesy. But we both cry (Don’t ask; my emotions are easily manipulated.). At the end, Geeky Girl gives me a big hug and says, “I love you, Mom.”
